SYRCL's RiverAdvocate program utilizes legislation and regulation to protect and restore watersheds.
What is RiverAdvocate?
Collaboration has become an important word in SYRCL's language. A simple "us" versus "them" is no longer possible. Just as passing the Wild and Scenic bill demanded cooperation among a vast array of interested parties, so, too, the continuing effort to restore and protect the Yuba will have to be a common collaboration. The RiverAdvocate program brings together a diverse array of interests to discuss and resolve important issues in the Yuba Watershed.
RiverAdvocate's Focus
The RiverAdvocate program is currently working on:
Coordinating the CALFED Upper Yuba River Studies Program River Team. The program works closely with government agencies and other stakeholders to investigate options for wild salmon and steelhead restoration above Englebright Dam;
Taking a leadership role in the Yuba-Feather Workgroup, a collaborative effort with local and state agencies working to develop alternative flood control management solutions throughout the Yuba Watershed;
Investigating options for the removal of Daguerre Point Dam as part of the Lower Yuba Technical Working Group's efforts to improve fish passage in the lower Yuba;
Spearheading the formation of a Yuba River Parkway;
Assisting the Yuba Watershed Council to become recognized as the most effective collaborative restoration effort in the state.
